Someone famously said "location location location' and Hare Cottage fulfils this idea as the area of 'Strangford Lough and Lecale' is a designated as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The cottage is on the southern shores of Strangford Lough, the largest inland sea Lough in the British Isles and designated an Area of Special Scientific Interest (ASSI). It is famous for its abundant seabirds, seal colonies, fishing, canoeing and sailing opportunities. On shore, walking, cycling, mountain biking, birdwatching, historical landmarks and the beauty of the area are in abundance.

The explosion of film making in the area is demonstrated by the hugely successful productions of Game of Thrones, Dracula and several TV productions. The fields in the neighbouring farm and estate have been used extensively for Game of Thrones and Winterfell.

Hare Cottage is located on St Patrick's Way, a designated walk that is part of the larger Ulster Way. St Patrick was recorded as landing in Ireland at the Slaney river and Hare Cottage is 250 metres from that location. In Downpatrick at Down Cathedral is St Patrick grave and St Patrick's Centre, an interpretive centre which provides an interactive journey of his life.

A trip to Strangford with the small car ferry journey to Portaferry is a must as the scenery is truly spectacular. Visitors to Hare Cottage have ample parking so if you are perhaps competing at Bishopscourt or one of the equestrian events we can cater for all your needs (even horses).
